We have gone to great measures to redesign the way our guests’ needs are met, while continuing to care for the environment. We strive to be in the forefront of the hotel industry by minimizing our carbon footprint and using environmentally friendly cleaning and personal products whenever possible. Below are some examples of our recent efforts.
- We have replaced all incandescent lighting with compact flourescent bulbs
- Our guest rooms are equipped with water saving toilets and low flow shower heads
- Our public restrooms are equipped with water saving toilets and faucets
- All disposable cups, plates and flatware are recyclable. Hot cups are 30% post consumer recycled material
- Lanyards and nametag holders are made of recycled pop bottles and are collected for reuse
- All aluminum, newsprint, plastic, cardboard, tin, and office paper is recycled.
- Computer hardware and alkaline batteries are recycled
- 5-gallon water coolers have replaced water bottles in meeting rooms and offices
- Water saving guest room towel and sheet “You Choose-Wash or Reuse” program
- We purchase environmentally friendly cleaning solutions
- We partner with eco-friendly organizations and caterers
- We use at least 30% post-consumer recycled paper wherever possible
- We use all natural hotel amenities that do not contain sulfates, parabens, art colors, or phthalates, and did not require animal testing
- Shuttle and public transportation options are conveniently available
- We buy local whenever possible
- We have staff trained to assist you in greening your meeting
- We replaced carpeting in all common areas as a 100% carbon neutral project
- Old carpet and padding were 100% recycled
- In room guest recycle program implemented
Being a 180-room hotel and conference center owned and operated by the University of Utah, we feel a great responsibility to our students, faculty, and administration to set an example by carrying forward an effort to reevaluate future efforts.
